Local Charities Awarded Bath Building Society Grants
Thirteen charities and community groups working in and around Bath have been given a boost from Bath Building Society through their annual Charity Awards scheme.
The Charity Awards, which were launched in 2006, are a way for Bath Building Society to offer their support to charities and organizations that offer valuable services to local people.
A range of monetary grants between £100 and £1,000 are allocated each year, as well as donations of hot air balloon tickets for a ride in the Society's balloon. These tickets are used by the organisation to raise funds, usually via an auction.
This year Bath Building Society received more applications than ever before, and it was up to a panel of judges to decide which causes would receive support this year.
The panel of judges consisted of the Mayor of Bath Cllr Tim Ball, Chief Executive of Bath Building Society Dick Jenkins, Editor of the Bath Chronicle Sam Holliday, Head of News at Bath FM Laura Harrison, Jilly Edwards from the Quartet Community Foundation, and Helen Plummer from Eventy - Marketing & PR.
A diverse range of groups were allocated awards this year, including Positive Action on Cancer, Bath City Farm, Bath Primary Schools Arts Festival and Oldfield Park Community Knitting.
Positive Action on Cancer, based in Frome, was allocated the Society's top award of £1,000 to cover running costs including room rental.

Mary Taylor from Positive Action on Cancer said: "We're delighted to have received the top award of £1,000 from Bath Building Society. The money will make a huge difference, covering the cost of our counseling room rental over the coming months and allowing us to continue to provide our service to those who need it.
On behalf of Positive Action on Cancer I would like to say a big thank you to Bath Building Society and the panel of judges who have awarded us this grant."
Bath Primary School Arts Festival and Bath Hospital Broadcast Society each received the second highest grants of £500.
The other successful applicants were Oldfield Park Community Knitting, Holcombe Majorettes, Sunflowers Toddlers, Bath Stroke Group, Bath City Farm, Garraway Youth and Community Centre and the Friends of Hope House Surgery.
Dick Jenkins, Chief Executive of Bath Building Society, said: "The Bath Building Society Charity Awards enable us to offer support to groups and charities in and around the city who do some excellent work within their chosen fields. This year we had a record number of applications from a very diverse range of organizations, from a cancer charity to a local knitting group."
"It is our aim to offer meaningful contributions to organizations to allow them to continue the important work they do within their communities. The people who put so much effort into these groups set a great example, and we're proud to be supporting them in their work."
The grants will be awarded to the successful organizations at a special ceremony at the Mayor's Parlour later this month. |
